Walking in the Light, Growing in Generosity
Just a few snapshots from my camera roll of the things your generous giving makes possible at HT. There's so much more, but here's a little glimpse! Thank you for all you make possible.
The clocks go back this weekend, so there's an extra hour in bed (always a bonus!). But the darker evenings and shorter days can feel harder for some of us, too. Light and darkness are powerful images in the Bible – from the very first words of creation, "Let there be light", to Jesus' promise that he is the light of the world. The darkness is real, in our own lives and in the world around us, but it never has the final word. And we don't have to manufacture the light ourselves; we're called to walk in the light of Christ and reflect it to those around us.
This Sunday, 25 October, we finish our series on Moses. Becca will be preaching on The Death of Moses (Deuteronomy 34:1–12) – a story of endings, new beginnings and faithfulness across the generations. Next Sunday, 1 November, is All Saints' Day, and our service will focus on Giving and Generosity. Do join us as we give thanks for God's generosity to us and reflect on how we can respond – with thankful hearts and open hands, in the life of HT and in the wider world. In Romans 12:1–2, Paul encourages us to offer our whole lives to God. The Message puts it beautifully, inviting us to bring our "everyday, ordinary life" to him. Following Jesus shapes all that we are and all that we do, including how we use the money and resources we've been given. Giving isn't an add-on to our faith; it's one way we respond to God's generosity and play our part in making his love known. I hope Sunday will be an opportunity to reflect and pray about this together.
There's lots to give thanks for at HT, too. We've been interviewing candidates for our new Church Administrator role – a really significant step as our church continues to grow. This person will work alongside the PCC, Pam and myself, helping to support all that happens here and enabling us to look ahead. It's exciting to see how God is at work among us, and to think about what might come next. I look forward to making an announcement soon!
At our next PCC meeting, we'll also be discussing our commitment to employing a Children's Worker. This is an important step, and the PCC would value your prayers for wisdom and discernment as we finalise the job description, and the shape of the role here at HT.
Finally, please continue to pray for those in our church family who are unwell. We remember them in our prayers each Sunday, but do hold them in your own prayers and devotions during the week, too. And if there's anything you'd particularly like us to pray for, do let Pam, Becca or mysled know. We want to walk alongside one another through the difficult times as well as the joyful ones.
As the days grow shorter, may we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the light of the world, and find fresh ways to reflect his light in our homes, our church and our community.
With love, Esther x
